VR Tour of Rocky Mountain National Park - Colorado

Postby dave on Mon Jun 26, 2006 4:30 am

AroundDenver.com has just released an 83 Scene VR Tour of Rocky Mountain National Park that includes some special enhanced features such as: Swirling High Altitude Lakes, Running Streams, Flowing Waterfalls, rotating skies and a fire that could be seen in the distance when two scenes were photographed.

To view the VR Tour go to http://www.arounddenver.com and click on the second button from the bottom left called "A Walk 'N' The Park" on the AroundDenver.com home page. We Suggest you take the Snowbank Lake / Lions Lake Tour, it has the most enhnaced features.

We hope you enjoy the show!

Beautiful panoramas indeed! The animation effects are great. I like the way you present a b/w preview with one highlighted coloured area. Great graphics, huge amount of information.

Navigation is a bit unusual. When I first tried to click on o hotspot, the hotspot always seemed to glide away. The minimap layer is great if you have a big screen with lots of unused space. I have a 1024x768 resolution and I don't know where to place it out of the way. The help told me to use "m" - this did work as long as I didn't switch to the next panorama - m again. The same with the Hotspots. They have to be toggled on/off for each and every panorama again.

The file size (800kb <->1 MB) seems big compared to the visible area of the panorama. I looked for a zoom feature. I did not miss it, just my expectation, that files of that size probably would allow for zooming. Maybe the size is caused by the effects? If so, it is worthwhile.

Great job!

Michael

Michael - Thanks for Checking out "A Walk 'N' The Park. The navigation map can be toggled off by clicking the map button or pressing the lower case "m" key and can be resized by using the up or down arrow keys and repositioned by dragging the status bar. The map always loads with a new panorama to give the viewer an idea of what part of the Tour they are at.

You are correct there is no Zoom function. Typically a companion QTVR is added to every scene for a zoom fucntion but the file sizes were so large due to the animations and additional effects QTVR was excluded in this tour to lessen the drain on the server.

Thanks again,

dave
