Need java viewer for non programer.

Bert,

I am a long time photographer but new to pano photography. I have made a few good looking panos, at least I am happy with them. Recently other folks have asked about me shooting panos of their work areas. Now I need your advice on what means I should provide the buyers to publish the panos on the web. I use Pano2qtvr and have on hand QT movies but after reading the forums I want some way of providing java viewers for the web. I have NO coding abilities and need a very simple program to do this. After searching the web all I found was PTViewer Scripter. Is this a workable solution for me or is it a no win situation for a non programmer.

Your help is much appreciated,

Richard Sink

As far as I can see, you are still served best with ptviewer, maybe in combination with PTViewer Scripter. The scripting abilities needed for it are really basic, if you only want to display panoramas. It's a bit more complicated to create virtual tours with it, depending on the degree of interactivity you want to provide. I could provide a basic script if it should be, but there is lots of other help out there as well.

Having said this, the situation could change soon:

Talking about java viewers, the immervision Pure player is probably the future standard. It can be controlled by extensive scripting, all well documented and supported by a forum. At present, they offer a basic program to display panoramas with this player. This program (Pure Tools) shall be the core of a future modular software with several options to create interactive panorama content. As I understand from your message, this is not the way to go, if the basic Pure Tools does not satisfy your needs alone. Try to follow the development of more modules in the upcoming months.

Talking about virtual tours, Easypano offers a great tour creating software, tourweaver 1.3, which is drag&drop. Unfortunately their actual viewer is crap. They've stated to me, that they would release tourweaver 2.0 in september, with a much improved viewer. Try the demo when they release it. If the player (viewer) really is improved, this will probably be your program.

Hi Richard,

I once had to show panoramas to a client, and the PC I had to show them on was on a slow connection to the internet, and did not have anything installed.

No Java VM, No Quicktime, No Shockwave....

The fastest way to show how things would loook like, was a visit to the gallery of this very website, and the (quick) installation of DevalVR...

Just to let you know....

mstoss and Bert,

Thanks very much for the advice. I will spend time with Pure Tools and DevalVR.

Thanks again,

Richard
